The Best Digital Cameras Aren't Always the Most Expensive
The best digital cameras don't necessarily cost a lot. First we need to
decide what we want in a digital camera. Then we need to do
our
homework. Randomly check reviews and ratings to determine the most important
features. While doing this, differentiate between what's really important and
what's "fluff."
The best
cameras are not always the most expensive, but rather those that have the best quality, features
and performance at the right price.
Decide What You Want in a Camera
Before we begin comparing
digital cameras we need to decide what's best for
us. By addressing the following four issues, we'll waste less time scrutinizing
the wrong cameras, and optimize our time analyzing the best models for our
particular wants and needs.
- Suitability – fun photos, photography enthusiast or professional
photographer
- Quality – compare
quality of both the camera and the photos it takes.
- Size – models to compare
include miniature, compact and full-sized cameras.
- Price – compare cameras
in a price range set by your needs and budget.
Now that we've narrowed our search somewhat, we're ready to get started...
The Homework
Ratings and reviews identify the best performance, features and qualities of
cameras in a variety of criteria. Some are more important than others, but
basically look at:
- Ease of Use - Kodak EasyShare cameras are consumer favorites.
- Camera Quality - Canon, Konica Minolta and Nikon are among the
best.
- Photo Quality - A function of the camera's optics, image sensor
and processor.
- Memory - Compact flash, MMC and SD cards are considered the best.
Few digital cameras have enough internal memory so affordable
removable storage is needed.
- Speed - The camera should be ready almost immediately when turned
on, with a very short
lag time between shots.
The Best Camera is Obvious
Using this approach we've decided what's important, established the criteria
to study, and set a basic price range. Once we've analyzed the data from our
"short list" it quickly becomes apparent which digital camera is best for us.
