Camera Batteries: Minimize the Time and Expense
Constantly replacing camera batteries is time consuming and costly. Cameras
are high drain devices that typically use throw-away AA or specialty batteries.
Many of today's sophisticated
digital cameras employ
battery packs, which are
even more expensive.
If the camera uses disposable batteries, you can quickly find you're spending a lot on batteries.
And the inconvenience of frequent interruptions to change the batteries is a
hassle. The solution is quality, long-life rechargeable batteries.
Newer NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) or Li-ion (Lithium Ion) rechargeable batteries rated at least 1600 to 2100 mAh are best, and less prone to the
so-called "memory effect" of older NiCad (Nickel Cadmium) batteries. Contrary to popular belief,
they will last longer per charge than throw-away alkaline batteries. Be sure to get a
quality charger and extra batteries.
Rechargeable Battery Pack
Most of today's digital camera battery packs employ Li-ion or lithium polymer battery
technology. Like NiMH, these batteries are superior to NiCad and disposable
batteries. Before choosing a camera, study reviews and ratings. If camera
features, quality and performance are similar, select the model with the longest
battery life.
Always be prepared and have at least
one extra fully charged pack or set of batteries. The camera battery should be the least concern on a photo outing,
but without some
basic planning and preparation can be a real pain in the neck.
