Canon EOS Digital Rebel Cameras: Digital SLRs for Everyone

Canon EOS Digital Rebel cameras revolutionized the digital SLR market. The first Digital Rebel, the EOS 300D, was introduced in August 2003. A 6.3 megapixel large format CMOS sensor, DiGiC image processor, and $899 price tag created a stir in the digital SLR world.

A year and a half later saw the release of the EOS 350D Digital Rebel XT. Smaller, lighter and more powerful than the 300D, the XT sports a 2nd generation 8.0 megapixel CMOS sensor, and a more efficient DiGiC II processor at the same MSRP.

The large format, 3:2 aspect ratio sensors provide high quality images in the familiar 35MM photo format. Canon's DiGiC and DiGiC II processors are faster, draw less power, and power-up almost instantaneously. Canon ultra-compact, compact, prosumer and SLR cameras get some of the highest marks in the industry.

The Digital Rebel was the first camera to support Canon's new EF-S lenses. Designed for digital SLR cameras, these lenses are smaller and lighter but with the same mount and contacts as conventional EF lenses. This dual lens compatibility gives the Digital Rebels a choice of more than 50 interchangeable lenses.

Priced comparably to many Prosumer models, the EOS Digital Rebels make a quality digital SLR affordable to more consumers. Some discounters offer Digital rebels for under $800.
