Konica Digital Cameras: A Rich Heritage Continues

The story of Konica digital cameras began in Tokyo in 1873 when Rokusaburo Sugiura opened a photo supply store. Nine years later the company began producing cameras. During WWII the name was changed to Konishiroku Photo Industry Company, and the Konica brand was inaugurated with their first 35mm camera in 1948.

The next 45 years saw many Konica innovations. Among them were the first built-in light meter, CdS AE system, TTL AE, and the first 35mm SLR camera to utilize automatic DX film encoding. Konica's first digital camera, the 300k pixel Q-EZ, was introduced in 1996. The following year saw the first megapixel model - the Konica QM-100.

Konica Joins Minolta

On August 5, 2003 photo powerhouses Konica Corporation and Minolta Co,. Ltd. joined forces to form Konica Minolta Holdings, Inc. After the merger cameras carried the Minolta name while imaging materials were labeled Konica. In 2004 all products adopted the Konica Minolta brand.
