Konica Minolta Digital Cameras: A Rich Heritage Endures
Konica Minolta digital cameras continues a legacy of more than 130 years of
quality and innovation. Konica's roots go back to 1873, beginning as a photo and
lithographic materials and supply store in Tokyo. In 1903 the company began
marketing Japan's first personal use camera, the "Cherry Hand Camera."
Working closely with German engineers, Minolta began camera production in
Japan in 1928 and introduced their first camera, the Nifcalette, in 1929. These
photographic giants merged in 2003 to form Konica Minolta Holdings, Inc.
Evolution of Personal Photography
The first half of the 20th century witnessed a revolution in photography.
Early cameras were expensive, bulky and complicated contraptions only the
wealthy could afford and few were able to master. Companies like Minolta, Konica
and Kodak made it their mission to make photography simple and affordable for
everyone.
Innovations like built-in light meters, automatic exposure controls and
bayonet style lens mounts are hallmarks of Konica Minolta's contributions. Often
"ahead of its time," Minolta developed much of the fundamental technology used
in today's sophisticated digital cameras.
Putting it All Together
