A History of Innovation
Minolta digital cameras are the result of nearly 80 years experience in
camera technology. In
1928 Kazuo Tajima started the Japan-Germany Photo Company, the predecessor of
Minolta Co., Ltd. The following year their first camera, the Nifcalette, was
introduced.
In 1937 the company released the first Japanese twin-lens reflex camera, the
Minoltaflex, based on the German Rolleiflex. From the 1950s to the 1980s Minolta
pioneered many breakthroughs. Among these were TTL metering in SLRs, multi-mode
metering, bayonet lens mounts, and the first multi-mode compact SLR camera.
Minolta and Konica Merger
In 2003 Minolta joined forces with another Japanese camera pioneer, Konica,
to form Konica Minolta Holdings, Inc. Between them, Minolta and Konica had more
than 200 years of photographic experience. Besides film cameras and other
imaging products, as of October 2005 Konica Minolta makes 15
digital camera models from ultra-compact to high quality SLRs.
